Tour scam warning

a waring for anyone booking tours in koh kong,oasis uses ritthy- koh kong eco adventure tours ,which used to be koh kong eco tours until a notorious hotel in kho kong stole his name!!and now copies his signs.The  bad tour office is run from the koh kong guesthouse on the river front(next door to Ritthy) or also know as mr.42,do your research before booking with them as a female traveler who recently went on a jungle trek with them had her phone and camera stolen by one of there guides and the manger(mr.42) just made excuses,they are a badly run operation who intentions are on ripping tourist off and tarnishing the areas reputation,please be aware as some hotel will take there commission and pass you onto them.
oasis resort uses Ritthy for the tours as the ya are the best run tours in town but Neptune and blue moon also run good quality torus.

The end of a era

Koh kong island one of the last true castaway experience in this region is now entering a new period but sadly leaving behind another.Recently Bungalows have been built ion beach 4 and opened in December 2012,the same people who own the Apex have now are expanding to beach 3(beach 6 in the lonely planet) so people will now be bale to stay out on the island in bungalows,hopefully it will be run ok and people can stay on the island to experience its beauty.This joint Apex hotel/military soldiers on the island venture opens new time for the island but also closes another which i stared 8 yrs ago which is the days tours to the island as they are not allowing trips to the beach 3 while they construct and only after if they eat at there restaurant,so the freedom of beach BBQ and adventure has now gone,but trips will still be run to beach 2 which is nice but not of the beach 3 standard.reports this season from guest are of the island suffering from its worst year of sand flies with some people being badly bitten by the little terrors,this is possibly due tot he increase in rubbish from fishing boats and other tour operators leaving there litter and lunch remains there,so possibly the adventure and uniqueness of the island has now passed.

Brand new 3 man sea kayaks are now available from koh kong eco tours to take your own trip out on the rivers at the foot of the cardamom mountains,guides are available but the peace and freedom is best experienced independently!

Bus tickets

Please be aware that bus tickets in koh kong to Phnom penh or sihanoukville are $6-7,if anyone is trying to tell you more please look around and get the correct price,bus companies let anyone sell there  tickets at what ever price they choose, a river front guesthouse which unfortunately has a old English guy in on it is selling there tickets for $11 to unsuspecting tourists,please get the right price to try to teach tourism going forward to the thief's who are still trying to drag koh kong down! Bus tickets to Phnom penh and sihanoukville are $6-7 and the agent selling this is still getting a booking fee so don't let them swindle you for more!

Koh kong islands trip

The trip to koh kong island that we have been running for 8yrs is still a great trip but 4 other Khmer hotels are running the same trip now and leaving all there food litter on the beach,we cleaned this beach every time for years but now cannot remove all there litter so a beautiful spot is becoming dirty,apologies for anyone who has been let down by this.If you book with koh kong eco tours you will still get a good value day out with great bbq,the other hotels will give you poor food and a bad trip,read the internet to see these bad trips run by two bad hotels to make sure your holiday isnt disappointed,as always any where int he world if a bus takes you to a hotel they own and then try and keep you in there restaurant and do there tours its bad sign!.

Tuk Tuk annoyances!

Due to increasing greed and problems with the bus station and tuk tuks in koh kong with the authority doing nothing about, please  email for arranged tuk tuk pick up to the resort for $2 plus the corrupot bus station $0.50 tax!If you try your self you will be hassled by rude aggressive tuk tuk drivers demanding $4-5 for a 2km ride or they will take you for a $2 to commission paying dirty,poorly run Khmer hotel!let us help you take the hassle away that Cambodia seems to welcome visitors with!

Koh kong eco tours has its booking office on the high street of koh kong at the dug out hotel.pop into the office to see the largest selection of quality tours on offer in koh kong province.The tours were set up by Oasis resort and are the longest running tours in koh kong(since 2005) but the company is now run by local khmers who have been trained in bringing visitor satsifaction and enjoyment to our guests in koh kong & Cambodia.

Tours 2010/2011 ( 2 of 2)

4:Kayak/ jungle trek-this trip starts with 3 man /1 man kayaks with a 40 min kayak trip across a clam river through mangroves into a secluded bay with surrounding mountain scenery giving you that quiet special moment out in the wilds.Arriving at a rock outcrop and a optional swim,followed by a 2 hr walk through long grass trails to covered jungle and descending down a river/rapids bed which depending on the month will be a small flow or dry,with great jungle photo opportunity.After a rest the same kayak back,taking around 4-6 hrs and requiring a reasonable good level of fitness although if you want to admire the scenery the guides will do most of the paddling! Tour price $20 per person.

(Tours 3 & 4 no food or drinks are provided but BBQ or pack lunch can be arranged if required).

Other tours with operators booking through Koh kong Eco tours can be arranged to areas such as Thumel bang waterfall by jeep or Moto,Tatai falls ,pream krasaop,Koh yor beach or for the more adventurous dirt bike outings into the cardamom mountains on the pursat dirt road with optional jungle sleep overs.

1.Koh kong Island-(October to June)Pick up hotel at 7:40am,long tail traditional boat departs lagoon at 8:00am,2hr 45 min journey with 75% chance of dolphin sightings to beach 3(beach 6 in lonely planet guide)with lagoon behind.4hrs beach time with prawn & veg BBQ,baguettes,fruit and water provided(cold soft drinks and beer $1 each).journey back through Pream krasaop mangrove forest past local fishing villages.Approx time back 6:00pm and transport back to hotel.(The coast of Cambodia has sand flies sometimes,we provide free repellent and honest advice before you book).Life jackets,first aid kits and shade provided.Tour price $25 per person.

2.Koh por waterfall and jungle Trek-(all year but trekking can be restricted by monsoon)Pick up 8:20am,transport to lagoon and traditional long tail boat departs 9:00am,1hr 30 mins through glorious jungle mountain scenery to the first of two falls,trek to the second falls and swim in the lagoon and rapids, return to the first falls for a Prawn& veg BBQ,baguettes,fruit and water(cold soft drinks and beer $1),back at lagoon approx 5:00pm and transport to hotel. Life jackets and first aid kits and shade provided.Tour price $25 per person.

3.Jungle treks-We have two choice of treks set up,the first by long tail boat for 40 mins with a 30 min trek to a view point and refreshing dip at rapids,this trip is a easy walk for most levels of fitness and takes around 5 hrs from departure.The second is 10 mins long tail boat and a walk through jungle and down a waterfall and river bed for 2 hrs,this walk is a higher level of fitness.Both trips are $20 per person.All treks are in safe areas with no land mine concern and follower old logging paths, experienced local guides are used.

Oasis resort runs a strict policy on check in guests,guest who check into bungalows cannot bring any guest back to their bungalow.To promote the family environment of the resort we reserve the right of judgment on check in customers and a Asian female must provide valid identification if accompanied by a foreigner, we apologize if this causes any offense to genuine couples but the resort reserves the right to protect its customers, family environment and guests.

Area tours:
.Tatai waterfall,lies about 22km outside of town by motorbike and a short walk through bamboo forest,it is a 20mtr wide and 6mtr drop which gushes in the wet season and steadies to a trickle through the hot season,a beautiful location but suffers from litter due to its easy accessibility.

Either hire a motorbike or let someone drive you,around 30 mins from town.Rainbow lodge,a Eco lodge at Tatai runs boat trips to the falls and has a jungle walk set up,ring ahead as there is no road to the lodge and needs boat pick up.

Jungle trekking,we have a few walks for different levels of fitness and budget,we use disused loggers trails and if they still use them the sight of tourist puts them off so the trails are now helping the local environment,they finish at small rapids so you can have a cool dip.

Local walks that are free and we provide information and maps for these for the ramblers.

Bird watching trips can be arranged along highway #48 with early morning starts rewarding the enthusiast.

Fishing trips are now being established,river or sea.

Dolphin watching is another early morning trip but is better combined with a the island visit or a Pream krasop mangrove trip as the rare irrawaddy dolphin has been seen here.

Pream Krasop wildlife sanctuary,don't be expecting to see a lot of wildlife as it refers to the crustations and fish wildlife which the mangrove forest supports,but the raised walkway through one of the largest areas of mangrove is a great half or full day experience with a suspension bridge leading to a viewing tower and local boats for hire to explore the canal network and to outlaying villages and small islands such as koh kapi.

Area tours:
Koh kong island with 6 beaches,the 3rd being our choice as it has a beautiful lagoon behind it.The island will reward you with white sands,shallow crystal clear waters and as its uninhabited a near as you get castaway experience.More tours are going to the island now but you can still enjoy the uncrowded white sand.Options of small speed boat or traditional long tail boat get you to the island in just over a hour(speedboat) or 2.5(long-tail) and both can return via pream krasop mangrove forest.BBQ can be arranged on the beach.There are no sleepovers or accommodation on the island as its a military controlled island and don't believe operators who flounce this rule as it could land you in trouble or out of pocket.best time to visit November to may-we don't run this tour June to October as the sea conditions can turn with the monsoon and your beach experience can be ruined by monsoon rubbish washed up.
Koh por waterfall is 16km up the Stung koh poi estuary and is a stunning jungle gorge with a 30mtr wide,4 mtr drop waterfall,in the wet season it is a spectacular torrent filling the gorge but swimming and exploring is limited,November onwards it subsides leaving smaller falls and more bathing opportunities and further trekking chances to other falls and rapids.day trips or sleepovers can be arranged.This is my personal favorite trip in the area with the boat ride up taking your breath away.Speed boat gets you there in 45mins and long-tail 2.5hrs.
